What is the version of windows used by most school systems?
Just out of curiosity, what is the type of windows that is used by schools? The one currently installed in my school prompts you for three things upon startup: Username, password, and network (either the computer or the school-wide network). These all apear in a windows XP style box, and after you enter you information if launches you into you own unique profile. After a bit of searching I was unable to find what type of windows it is, or even if it is just a different configuration of XP. Please contribute any knowledge towards this that you can… Thanks!
Alright, I found out what it was, XP professional turned out to be the right one… Thanks!
and @Efreak15, I just wanted to know out of curiosity mostly, and I have a bet with one of my teachers that I can’t get past his firewalls…
Just needed to know more about the system I was trying to get into.
Through experience, I would guess it is Wondows XP Professional. Many schools have slightly older PC’s that use this operating system. What gives you that window for logging in is simply the way the computer is setup to login. That type allows, as you can see, the ability to log into a network account. You probably couldn’t find the version just because of restrictions or you may not have known where to look.

They used to used Mac OS X but since the Department of Education is running out of money and MAC computers are too expensive, they are using Windows XP now. Most of the Schools prefer Windows XP and use it because it is the easiest out of all microsoft Operating Systems and is easier than Mac OSX.

I’d bet money it’s xp, maybe they’re using novell netware to log in so it looks different.
If you can log in, go to start, run, and type in winver, I think it is. Maybe just ver. Should tell you. Or right click on my computer and click properties.. Should tell you.

If you don’t know what windows you have, then once you get logged in, go to start, right click on computer, and select properties. That will tell you what version of Windows you have.
Most schools are now on Vista. A few are still running XP. Some have finally upgraded to Win 7.
