Why is my Macbook Air update slow?

Hi can anyone help me please? I have a Macbook Air. This is not the new one. This is the Macbook Air when it was first launched. The specs are:

1.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB DDR2 RAM
80GB Hard Disk

So the problem is that everytime i try to update my software for the macbook, it loads very slow and when its done and i click install, it downloads and then it fails and the following message appears:

"the update can’t be saved… a networking error has occurred: timed out – make sure you connect to the internet, then try again." when my internet is already connected and did not change at all.

But this doesn’t happen when i’m connected to another wireless network. This only occurres to the wireless connection in my house. With the other connections, its very fast and downloads with no trouble at all.

Can anyone tell me what could be the problem be. is it the router or the internet service provider or..?
Thanks

If the connection works on a direct connection between the modem and the laptop, it is the router. If the direct (wired) connection doesn’t work, contact your ISP, because your modem is malfunctioning.
