I need some important incite on Ipod Touch details?

July 5, 2010 - 7:22 am 2 Comments

This is a very important question for me, as I have been thinking about this for quite a long time now. I have saved up around five hundred dollars over the last month, and was wondering if I should buy an Ipod touch. I have always wanted one since its launch, but didn’t have the money for it. I now have more than enough money. Here is the catch though. I am well aware that a "supposed" new ipod touch (3rd gen.) is on its way to the market, and also that there is a new iphone that is in development. This iphone may make it to the Verizon wireless market because of Verizon’s upcoming 4g network, but still is unlikely because of AT&T renewing their contract. I have an idea in my head that near after the Apple conference in September, the new devices will be unveiled. I just want some of your opinions on what you think I should do….

Much help is appreciated. I hope I didn’t waste your time. Thank you.

well, i would wait, and see what comes out. i have an ipod touch, i absolutely hate it. it always freezes and shuts off and is always low on battery "/
i would wait for something new :D
i doubt the iphone will come to verizon though.
i hope i helped :D

I’m Thinking of getting an iPhone 3Gs?

April 27, 2010 - 8:16 pm 5 Comments

I have an iPod Touch and now Vodafone and O2 in Ireland have the iPhone 3Gs.

My questions are as follows.
Vodafone have a package starting at €35 per month with 2Gb internet usage
O2 have one starting at €40 per month with unlimited internet access

Would you use 2Gb quickly – which network is better?

Also with the launch of the iPhone 4G in June do you think prices will come down as both O2 and Vodafone offer the iPhone on my package rate at €199 – I’m not prepared to pay €60 for a cheaper iPhone.

Is there any point in just going for the standard iPhone 3G (not 3Gs) ?

Thanks!
Just some info – I’m not that interested in the 4G model. My main questions relate to the network andif people think the price will drop following the release of the 4G model

MacRumors reckons that the iPhone is about to be revised anyway – we know that iPhone v4 software is due soon so a hardware refresh at the same time is pretty likely.

4G could thwart government’s 3G plans

Bangalore: While India is yet to decide on a policy on 3G mobile telephony, Motorola which has tested Long Term Evolution (LTE), is all prepared to start trial services of 4G by the end of this year. The move could spoil things for the Indian government, which plans to auction 3G spectrum in the country.The government has been planning to raise Rs.35,000 crore by auctioning radio frequency for 3G. If Motorola tests 4G, which can offer 70 Mbps download speed on a mobile phone, operators planning to launch 3G telephony may rather wait and watch. Motorola is likely to approach the Department of Telecom (DoT) for trial spectrum, said Subhendu Mohanty, Senior Executive with Network’s Mobility Business, Motorola India.

The DoT is understood to have prepared a concept paper on 4G. According to industry sources, apart from Motorola, other telecom vendors are also in the process of trials. Asked whether Motorola is in talks with operators, Mohanty said, “We would like to have trial with the players, but the technology can also be tested on our own systems.”

When contacted by PTI, DoT officials refused to talk about when 4G can be considered for commercial deployment as it would depend on the availability of spectrum and viability of services in India.

Verizon Wireless Plans 4G Rollout in 20-30 Markets Next …

July 28, 2009 - 10:28 pm 1 Comment

Friday, May 29, 2009

CARLSBAD, Calif — Wireless giant Verizon is preparing its network to launch 4G technology in 20 to 30 markets in 2010, the company’s spokesman John Johnson told Beet.TV at the D: All Things Digital conference.

4G is the next-generation of wireless technology that should support better multimedia and video streaming on cell phones. Verizon’s goal is to generate more usage of broadcast TV and personalized video with the 4G rollout, Johnson told us.

The carrier began development of the 4G network back in 2007.

Verizon has been building up mobile video usage with its VCast service, which delivers video clips from TV networks and others on an on-demand basis and via streaming. “What people want to get is stuff that’s current, hot, topical — the game you can’t be in front of, the presidential speech, the breaking news,” Johnson said.

Verizon’s 4G push comes as mobile video is poised to take off. The iPhone has driven demand for video on cell phones. More than a third of iPhone users watch video on their phones, 10 times the average mobile user.

In addition, Cisco has forecast that mobile traffic will grow 66 times by 2013 due largely to video use.

Verizon had disclosed it’s 4G plans earlier this year at the GSMA World Congress in Barcelona.

At the Wall Street Journal’s D: All Things Digital, AT&T chief Randall Stephenson told Walt Mossberg how AT&T will be increasing its network speed.

Twittering on Verizon FIOS

Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal’s Amol Sharma reports that Verizon is reading the ability to use Twitter on its FIOS high speed, fiber optic Internet service.

XOHM WiMAX Broadband Service Debuts in Baltimore
New 4G wireless era dawns as unique business model revolutionizes mobile Internet access

HERNDON, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–

A next-generation 4G wireless network based on mobile WiMAX technology debuted today in Baltimore, heralding the start of a new era for wireless consumers as Sprint (NYSE: S) officially launched XOHM(TM) mobile broadband commercial service in the first major U.S. city.

“This is truly an historic day with the birth of a completely new Internet-based business model that alters the dynamics of the traditional telecom industry,” explained Barry West, president of Sprint’s XOHM business unit. “Wireless consumers will experience WiMAX device and XOHM service innovation on multiple levels as the computer, Internet, telecom and consumer electronics industries converge to redefine wireless mobility.”

XOHM WiMAX will extend the home or office Internet experience and mobile multimedia applications to other places and additional devices. With XOHM, consumers, businesses and local governments will ultimately be able to experience new forms of interactive communications, high-speed mobile Internet browsing, social-networking tools, location-centric services and multimedia including music, video and on-demand products at faster average downlink speeds of 2-4 Mbps. The data-centric XOHM broadband service differs from present wireless offerings in that:

No long-term commitments or contracts are required, freeing customers from restrictive long-term subsidized plans;
Monthly home, on-the-go and day-pass Internet plans provide service choices;
A single monthly charge covers service for multiple WiMAX access devices;
WiMAX devices are purchased like other computing/consumer electronic devices,
XOHM broadband service is self-activated and includes future updates capability;
Customers can enjoy an Internet portal offering enhanced mobile services;
The Open Internet business model transcends other carriers’ wireless walled gardens that restrict services, choice and innovation.
Starting today, customers can purchase XOHM-branded Samsung Express air cards for $59.99 and ZyXEL modems for $79.99 via XOHM web, telesales or select Baltimore-area independent retailers. Additional WiMAX devices such as a ZTE USB modem, Intel Centrino 2 WiMAX notebook PCs and the Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition are expected in market later this year.

Introductory offers allow customers to choose from both daily and month-to-month service options. At launch, mobile WiMAX service plans include a $10 Day pass, $25 monthly Home Internet service and $30 monthly On-the-go service. Special launch pricing includes a $50 “Pick 2 for Life” monthly service option covering two different WiMAX devices. Visit www.xohm.com to view the current XOHM WiMAX coverage area, details of the introductory broadband service offerings and device sales information.

XOHM subscribers will be given free access to a unique and customizable Web site, called MyXOHM, focusing primarily on local services and entertainment content, as well as providing security services, hosted storage and interactive communications. After choosing preferences, subscribers will have their content pushed to a customized and location-aware portal via small digestible widgets.

XOHM continues to work with WiMAX ecosystem partners and others to incorporate WiMAX technology in a range of computing, portable multimedia, interactive and other business and consumer electronic devices, including the availability of XOHM WiMAX in vehicles for navigation information, news and entertainment.

Sprint will be the first and only national wireless carrier to offer customers a dual-mode 3G – 4G device that extends the power of Sprint’s NOW network. Expected to launch in the fourth quarter, this Sprint device will operate on the nation’s largest 3G mobile broadband network and the 4G network in Baltimore and other markets as WiMAX service becomes available.
