What is the version of windows used by most school systems?

November 15, 2010 - 11:25 pm 7 Comments

Just out of curiosity, what is the type of windows that is used by schools? The one currently installed in my school prompts you for three things upon startup: Username, password, and network (either the computer or the school-wide network). These all apear in a windows XP style box, and after you enter you information if launches you into you own unique profile. After a bit of searching I was unable to find what type of windows it is, or even if it is just a different configuration of XP. Please contribute any knowledge towards this that you can… Thanks!
Alright, I found out what it was, XP professional turned out to be the right one… Thanks!

and @Efreak15, I just wanted to know out of curiosity mostly, and I have a bet with one of my teachers that I can’t get past his firewalls… :P Just needed to know more about the system I was trying to get into.

Through experience, I would guess it is Wondows XP Professional. Many schools have slightly older PC’s that use this operating system. What gives you that window for logging in is simply the way the computer is setup to login. That type allows, as you can see, the ability to log into a network account. You probably couldn’t find the version just because of restrictions or you may not have known where to look.

Breaking news: smackdown to switching networks?

November 13, 2010 - 11:40 pm 5 Comments

Syfy Channel has pinned a deal for "Smackdown."

World Wrestling Entertainment Inc’s "Smackdown," which for years was a mainstay on the UPN and CW networks before moving to News Corp.’s My Network TV, is now headed to NBC Universal’s Syfy Channel, people close to the situation said.
A deal, which will be announced later this week, further solidifies the growing relationship between NBC Universal and Vince McMahon’s WWE. Syfy already carries the show "NXT," which is a reality program featuring wannabe wrestlers trying to make it to the big leagues of WWE. NBC Universal’s USA cable channel also carries WWE programming including "WWE Raw."

Although terms were not disclosed, My Network TV was shelling out roughly $20 million a year for "Smackdown." Syfy’s price tag is believed to be closer to $30 million a year.

Although "Smackdown" is more than 10 years old, it still does very well with men, particularly the 18-34 demographic, and generally averages about 3.5 million viewers overall. "Smackdown" will continue to air on Friday nights when it moves to Syfy later this year, most likely in either late September or early October.

WWE is still looking to launch its own cable network, probably sometime in 2011. This latest deal with NBC Universal is another sign that the two could end up partnering on such a channel. WWE chief Vince McMahon has close relationships with NBC Universal brass, particularly Dick Ebersol, who oversees all

NEW YORK (Reuters) – First lady Michelle Obama beat out heads of state, chief executives and celebrities to rank as the world’s most powerful woman in Forbes magazine’s annual listing on Wednesday.
Kraft Foods Chief Executive Irene Rosenfeld, who led a hostile $18 billion takeover of Britain’s Cadbury, came in second, followed by talk show host and media mogul Oprah Winfrey, who is ending "The Oprah Winfrey Show" next year after 25 years to launch her cable network OWN.

I don’t really like Michelle Obama anyways *shrugs*

Al Jazeera (Arabic: الجزيرة, al-ğazīrä, [al.dʒaˈziː.ra], meaning "The Island", referring to the Arabic name for the Arabian Peninsula) is a television network headquartered in Doha, Qatar. Initially launched as an Arabic news and current affairs satellite TV channel with the same name, Al Jazeera has since expanded into a network with several outlets, including the Internet and specialty TV channels in multiple languages, and in several regions of the world.

The original Al Jazeera channel’s willingness to broadcast dissenting views, including on call-in shows, created controversies in Persian Gulf States. The station gained worldwide attention following the September 11, 2001 attacks, when it broadcast video statements by Osama bin Laden and other al-Qaeda leaders (see Videos of Osama bin Laden).

It is a state run news station so will be a mouth peace for the Emir. That being said, it would add a different perspective to things IF people would actually watch it and if they were smart enough to realize what the station is.

How would a WWE Television Network-work?

November 4, 2010 - 12:00 pm 8 Comments

Vince McMahon is making plans to launch a WWE Television Network in 2011. What I don’t understand is how would this entire network actually operate? They would need to air shows 24/7, 365 days a year and they surely dont have near enough footage or possible programs to fill the time.

Third Of Five is right. Vince McMahon owns enough tape libraries from the dozens of promotions he put out of business in the 80’s and 90’s to be able to sustain an entire Network channel for years and years. But it wouldn’t be a different show every hour (or two); the shows would get repeated several times throughout a day, I would imagine, so as to not exhaust his inventory for a long time.

I’m thinking such a venture would expand on wwe.com’s "Classics on Demand" (I think it’s called), in that Vince would charge a subscription rate to access this channel to see all of this wrestling history. It would be like a permanent PPV channel, where you pay for a month’s programming (or longer) at once. I would imagine there would be non-WWE PPV events (such as Starrcade and Super Clash) in the mix, as well. Depending on the subscription price, this would be a very worthwhile thing for fans of wrestling history, and those curious about other promotions, wrestlers, and events they’ve only heard about but haven’t seen.

TheShiznit.com, new social networking site launched by Justin Bieber and Usher?

I heard about it on the radio, and this is the only website I came across about it.

Is this legitimately launched by Justin Bieber and usher? I’m curious as to whether this is going to become as big as facebook. Does anyone know about it?

I also heard about it on the radio and signed up myself! Everything looks legit! From the looks of it and how the site is setup it has the potential to be way bigger then any social network I’ve been on! Seriously I think this is the future, they’ve out done themselves!

Should candidates running for public office use illegals to be canvassing neighborhoods for votes?

October 25, 2010 - 10:26 pm 4 Comments

SEATTLE —
When Maria Gianni is knocking on voters’ doors, she’s not bashful about telling people she is in the country illegally. She knows it’s a risk to advertise to strangers that she’s here illegally – but one worth taking in what she sees as a crucial election.

The 42-year-old is one of dozens of volunteers – many of them illegal immigrants – canvassing neighborhoods in the Seattle area trying to get naturalized citizens to cast a ballot for candidates like Democratic Sen. Patty Murray, who is in a neck-to-neck race with Republican Dino Rossi.

Pramila Jayapal, head of OneAmerica Votes, says the campaign is about empowering immigrants who may not feel like they can contribute to a campaign because they can’t vote.

"Immigrants really do matter," Jayapal said. "If we can’t vote ourselves, we’re gonna knock on doors, or get family members to vote."

So far the illegal immigrants going door-to-door aren’t meeting opposition. Craig Keller, an organizer for Respect WA, a group pushing for stricter immigration law in the Washington, said he doesn’t mind illegal immigrants volunteering for vote drives, he just wants to make sure mistakes on the voter rolls don’t allow them to vote.

"Anybody can go out and wave a sign, but when it comes to who’s making the choices, there’s no question they need to be citizens," Keller said.

In close elections across the country, the immigrant and minority vote is considered key for candidates, especially Democrats.

Earlier this week in Nevada, a television ad urging Latinos not to vote sparked outcry from Democrats, who called it a dirty trick meant to keep Hispanics home and boost Republican candidates. Univision and Telemundo – the nation’s two largest Spanish-language networks – canceled the ad, which the Republican group Latinos for Reform had planned to eventually run in Nevada, Florida, California, Texas and Colorado through the Nov. 2 election.

Seattle is home to a wide array of immigrant communities, from Latinos to east Africans and Asians.

Congress declined this year to consider overhauling the country’s immigration law, much to the chagrin of immigrant advocates who had expected Democrats to do so by now.

Still, OneAmerica Votes launched one of the largest get-out-the-vote campaigns in the state on behalf of Democratic candidates. The organization is an offshoot of OneAmerica, one of the state’s largest and the most influential immigrant-rights advocacy group.

Through home visits, phone banks and mailings the organization is aiming to reach about 40,000 registered voters in the Seattle area in an attempt to help Democrats gain ground in key races. Volunteers include other types of people who can’t vote, such as legal permanent residents.http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2013226933_apusillegalimmigrantsvotedrive.html?syndication=rss
So anybody else believe illegals are living in the shadows ?

No these criminals are not living in the shadows. I have seen and heard them bragging about how they are getting away with so much bullsh*t. I think she should be deported after a long hard punishment. Like I said in another question on this matter, I dare an illegal to step on my property and tell me this garbage. I guarantee they would think twice before knocking on another door.
